This is my first director's chair so my expectations were not set or biased. I just wanted a nice but simple chair to use for video shoots (in front of the camera) - the chair would be mostly invisible but I wanted it to be comfortable, sturdy and to look nice for the parts that would occasionally show.

First off, it is definitely sturdy with quality fabric and does not wobble - all big pluses.

Getting the legs locked in was more of a task than I expected - I ended up using a rubber mallet, not to beat, but to use as leverage to press the locking mechanism into place. At 6ft and a sturdy 220lbs and I had to put some muscle into pushing them down with the mallet.

It may be because they are painted which is my only concern with this chair. The chair was painted after assembly which mean the hinges, the brackets and spacers were all painted. On unfolding it, the paint was cracking at those points and popping up. Our chair is black and the spacers are black so that was not a big deal - though it was certainly alarming at first. And the spaces sit in between the wood legs and are hardly visible.

The hinges were the same - the cracking ended up being on the bottom and the small pieces that flaked off are unseen. It was cause for concern, but the chair still looks great and I think it will hold up so I'm letting that pass. My preference would have been to leave the hinges stainless and apply after painting.

The only other issue I've seen with a few reviews that may matter so some are the dimensions. As I had no expectations, I had no idea of the exact size of a director's chair.

My dimensions vary slightly from what is listed:
*seat/butt height is 29.5" as stated
*overall height is 44.5", different but where I would expect it
*overall width at the feet is 24" as stated
*overall outside width at the arms is 22" - not stated
*overall inside width at the arms is 18.5" - not stated

So the available seat area/space is 18.5" wide. I have no idea if that is average or not - I'm 36-38" waist and I have 2 fingers width between both arms to my sides so I'm comfortable in it.

For me, it's working perfectly and my only concern will be how the paint holds up, but as it's black I am comfortable touching it up if ever needed.
