Millar's B3 Barley Mill, Barley Grain Crusher, Barley Grinder Review

I purchased this mill to crush grains for my home brewed beer. I brew once or twice a month so commercial / heavy duty quality was not really of concern to me. The price is $60 to $100 less than other similar models, which was why I checked into it further. It has sealed ball bearings on the roller shafts where others generally have oil impregnated bushings. In my opinion this should make it have more longevity but time and use will tell. I received my order quicker than the estimated time.

My package had obviously been handled pretty rough, so I was quick to assemble and inspect my mill. One of the thumb screws was bent and one of the eccentric spacing adjustment posts had a burr on it(caused by rough shipping) which kept it from turning properly. I sent an E-mail to the seller and within hours he responded and appologized for the trouble and said he would send replacement parts right away. I was able to temporarily repair the damaged parts so that I could clean and test the unit. I did have to disassemble it and clean the protective lubricant from it, which is suggested in the instructions, as well as running some grain through the unit to clean the knurled rollers.
I used this cleaning procedure to also play with the spacing adjustment. after getting it where I liked the crush I ran about 3/4 of a pound of grain through it and the mill performed GREAT! Consistent crush and smooth easy operation.
As a bonus, the seller includes a 58oz scoop which will come in handy for feeding grains.
Overall, Im very satisfied with my purchase and feel like I made the right choice.
Now if your one of those people that expect to save up to a $100 and receive an industrial grain mill with nothing to adjust or tinker with. I would suggest you do your research and spend more money. But if you want a mill that suits the intended purpose, form a vendor that responds to concerns, then this is the one.

As a means of being fair, these are the only complaints I have, none of which would prevent me from purchasing this unit again.

Packing could have been more carefully done
Hopper could be designed a little better and a little larger.
Side plates could be a little thicker ( but some manufacturers use pressboard, so these are at least better than that)
The protective lubricant is a pain to clean off but didn't bother me that much.

Ok, here is an update. This guy is one of the people that truly make you believe that GREAT customer service still exists! He corrected my issues much faster than I expected. I finally got around to using the mill today, and it performed perfectly. I was able to brew an all grain IPA with an efficiency of 76%. So, the unit is EXACTLY what I wanted and does what I expected it to do.
